Deedee Odell was born in Minneapolis and when her father returned from WWII, the family moved to Brookings, South Dakota where she lived until she graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Medical Technology. Growing up in the Brookings Methodist Church provided Deedee with a very strong youth group as well as the Wesley Foundation at SDSU. She moved to Pasadena, CA to intern and worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She had met this great Civil Engineering student by the name of Dick Odell at SDSU so when he graduated he got a job with IBM in Los Angeles. In 1970 they were married at Lake Poinsett Methodist Chapel in South Dakota. They continued living in CA and then in 1972 moved to Rochester, MN. During the two years they lived in Rochester, Deedee worked at the Mayo Clinic.
In 1975 they moved to Morgan Hill. CA where their two daughters, Suzanne and Jennifer, were born. In 1978, the family moved to Edmonds, WA and joined Edmonds United Methodist Church. The church had a wonderful young mothers circle and handbells. The rest is history.... Deedee became a ringer and has been playing bells ever since. In 1981, the family moved back to Rochester, MN and joined Christ United Methodist Church. Deedee has been involved in UMW, food service, handbells and many childrens activities while a member of CUMC. She has been playing handbells for 28 years and directing them for 20 years. During that time she has participated in or led many area and national handbell events and is currently the Youth Events Planner to the Area VII AGEHR Board. She is also the Chair for the 2010 Festival that will be held in Rochester She also enjoys reading, beading and ATV riding/camping with her husband. Deedee is now a grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters Addison and Scarlett...what could be more wonderful?
